For orthodontic residents, learning doesn’t stop when the classroom doors close. Understanding how orthodontic appliances are designed, fabricated, and brought to life can provide an entirely different perspective on the treatment process.

On August 6, Partners Dental Solutions had the opportunity to welcome the University of Minnesota Orthodontic Program to our facility for an immersive, behind-the-scenes experience inside the lab.

Rather than simply talking about orthodontic appliances, the visit gave residents the opportunity to see the process firsthand—from the people and technology involved to the attention to detail required to create the products that support orthodontic treatment.

From Classroom Concepts to Real-World Application

Orthodontic education is built on a strong clinical foundation, but there is tremendous value in understanding what happens behind the scenes once a treatment plan leaves the practice.

Throughout their visit, the University of Minnesota residents were able to step into the lab environment and gain a closer look at the many moving parts involved in appliance fabrication.

It was an opportunity to connect the clinical side of orthodontics with the technical expertise required to turn those treatment plans into carefully crafted appliances.

And, of course, an experience like this takes an all-hands-on-deck approach.

From our lab technicians and production teams to our account managers and leadership, members of the Partners Dental Solutions team came together to make the experience as informative and engaging as possible.

One of the most important takeaways from a lab visit is recognizing just how much expertise goes into every appliance.

Behind every product is a team of skilled individuals who understand that precision matters. Small details can make a meaningful difference, and quality craftsmanship requires a combination of experience, technology, communication, and attention to detail.

Giving residents the opportunity to interact directly with the people who make these appliances helps bridge an important gap between the clinical and laboratory sides of orthodontics.

It also creates an opportunity for questions, conversation, and collaboration—something we believe is essential to advancing the orthodontic profession.

Building Stronger Connections Between Education & Industry

At Partners Dental Solutions, we believe some of the best learning happens through collaboration.

Hosting the University of Minnesota Orthodontic Program was about more than giving residents a tour of our facility. It was about opening the doors to our process and creating a space where future orthodontists could ask questions, explore the technology and craftsmanship behind their appliances, and better understand the partnership between orthodontic practices and dental laboratories.

These experiences help future orthodontists see the bigger picture: successful treatment isn't accomplished by one person or one team. It takes collaboration across the entire orthodontic community.
